Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan aka SRK is once again the talk of the town — not for a new film or a raging controversy this time, but for being part of a world-renowned talk show. Earlier this month, he announced that he would be hosting the Indian edition of TED Talks.
Called TED Talks India: Nayi Soch, the show will air on Star Plus later this year. It will be a 14-episode Hindi series spread over the weekends.
Each episode will feature 3 speakers, who will throw light on inspiring topics in keeping with TED’s theme – ‘ideas worth spreading’.
The list of speakers that has been confirmed is quite impressive, including personalities from different walks of life — Sundar Pichai, AR Rahman, Ekta Kapoor, Karan Johar, Mithali Raj and others. Javed Akhtar is said to be the first speaker on the show.
The season will be produced over a week-long shoot at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai.
If reports are to be believed, Shah Rukh Khan will take home a whopping 30 crore rupees for his small screen comeback. Well, featuring a superstar comes with a price tag!
During a speech in Vancouver for the upcoming show, SRK was quoted as saying, “I have always been a fan of TED Talks, even before it became big on the Internet. I would call this show as the biggest achievement of my life.”
“This show will spread love and innovative ideas,” he added.
SRK is not new to television. He has hosted several other shows such as Kaun Banega Crorepati, India Poochega Sabse Shaana Kaun? and Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?. Hosting another Hindi show should be easy for him, but as per reports, he said he was quite nervous about being on the TED stage.
Head of TED, Chris Anderson said during the launch, “India has become a key part of my identity. I have a lot of stories to tell related to India. Comparing to earlier times, this country has grown its confidence and become a world power. We are delighted to bring this show to India.”
Karan Johar seemed equally excited as he shared photos of his TED shoot on his Instagram page. He had praises for both, the show and his dear friend, Shah Rukh Khan.
This is going to be the first non-english version of TED Talks, with hour-long episodes every weekend.
Viewers can look forward to insightful topics such as women’s empowerment, advanced technology, the importance of happiness, and the power of the spoken word.
