Yes, your friends want to catch up with you, but you have been ditching them for months now because you don’t want to leave your pet alone back home after deserting them when you were at work in the mornings. Your friends don’t understand you anymore. But well, our city eateries sure do!
Check out five places you can hang out with your buddies, play board games, and a the same time snuggle with your furry friend.
1. Cat Cafe Studio, Versova
This place is like no other and is a dream for feline lovers. The first-of-its-kind initiative in India, Cat Cafe Studio is an open house for cats. Imagine entering a spacious room with cats walking around, eating in a corner, and some resting on your lap. Five years back, the seeds of the cafe were planted by Mriidu Khosla, who championed the cause of rescuing cats. “At any point in time, we have around 15-20 cats – all of them trained. Cats are not ferocious like the common perception goes. They are simple and love to be cuddled, and we realised there are many who love to give exactly the same love to them. This model works wonders for cats as well as pet lovers,” says Khosla.
The cafe features a basic menu featuring bagels, salads, sandwiches, hummus and coolers.
2. Zoo Bar, Vile Parle (W)
The name is befitting for a place that actually lends itself to celebrating your pup’s birthday. Grab a beer, while your pet chills with other pets in a separate area on the premise. The open section is also open to the pets between 12pm and 7pm. “I celebrated my dog’s birthday here and it was perhaps the most enjoyable day for him. I wish there were more pet-friendly bars in the city,” says Ashna Mehra, 26, counsellor.
3. Doolally Taproom, Colaba, Andheri, Bandra
Yet another beer hub that allows you to snuggle alongside your pets is the chain of Doolally Taprooms. Almost like Cat Cafe Studio, they have a separate zone for your canine friends, where even if you don’t own one, you can definitely cuddle with the others there.
While there, try their taps of homegrown brews such as mango cider, and their house fries with five dips. “It’s a regular haunt for my pet, Lipstick, and me. I have made friends with other pet owners there. It’s one of the most novel concepts to let you chill with your pet. However, I hope every pet owner drinks responsibly,” says Oindrilla Mukherjee, 24, student.
4. Fellas Cafe, Khar
Apart from being a healthy smoothie and juice bar, this casual cafe is also open to pets. The outdoor seating section is often buzzing with pets in the morning hours when their owners stop by for a quick morning cuppa. “It’s been a routine for me for at least three years now. I leave my house, take my pup for a walk, come here for coffee, and start my day’s work. This is my happy place away from home,” says Patrick D’Souza, 28, software consultant.
5. Woodside Inn, Oshiwara
The cafe has a large menu and an even larger heart. Woodside Inn at Oshiwara is all welcoming to your furry companion and lets you share your table with them. In fact, you can also carry your own food for your pet; there’s no compulsion to order from the eatery. Woodside Inn also has one of the most extensive menus with lip smacking burgers and pizzas.
