The Buzz About Khar

Khar as party hub

The Buzz About Khar

The humble suburb is now home to the hottest bars and pubs in Mumbai.

Up until a few years ago, Khar wasn’t even a blip on the radar for Mumbai’s social butterflies. It was best known as a neighbourhood sandwiched between Bandra and Santacruz in Western Mumbai. Who knew it would become the party hub it is today? With more than a dozen new restaurant and bar openings in the past year alone, Khar has found its place on the map.

From karaoke nights to live gigs by popular artists such as Nucleya and Pratik Kuhad, Khar’s hot destinations have a lot on offer. What’s even better is that they’re located minutes away from each other.

We sort the best from the rest, and bring you a list of places for the perfect pub crawl in Khar.

Khar Social

One of the best outposts of the famous pub chain, Khar Social boasts of the city’s first official skateboarding space. It also has an underground performance space, The Antisocial, for cool alternative acts, art exhibitions, reading sessions, Bollywood events and more. But the best day to be here is on Monday nights when they host the karaoke. Channel your inner Taylor Swift and Kurt Cobain, there are no judgmental ears out there.
Beer starts at Rs 85 (Kingfisher).

Another good option for cheap booze and a fun vibe, Hoppipola is located bang opposite Khar Social. If you manage to get a table, grab one of their board games and challenge your friends. Be warned though, on weekends, it can get extremely noisy and crowded.
Beer starts at Rs 150 (Kingfisher).

Raasta, the Caribbean-themed pub, shares a wall with Khar Social. It celebrates the genius of artists such as Bob Marley, Jimmy Hendrix and Bob Dylan by means of its décor and music. One of the floors is a dedicated Sheesha lounge. So, hookah lovers, you know where to find your den! The pricing is definitely on the higher side as compared to its neighbours.
Beer starts at Rs 175 (Budweiser).

Radio Bar

Easy to locate, Radio Bar stands right beside Satgurus on Khar Linking Road. Despite an indoor and an open-air section, it gets over-crowded, especially on weekends. If that doesn’t bother you, let your hair down and enjoy its Bollywood nights (every Thursday). Psst…we hear it goes on until 3 am.
Beer starts at Rs 175 (Kingfisher).

3 Wise Monkeys

Located inside The Unicontinental hotel, 3 Wise Monkeys is a good budget option. It hosts a comedy night on Monday evenings, and karaoke on Thursday and Sunday evenings. The small pub doesn’t have enough space for people to dance, but definitely warrants enough space to catch up over a few drinks.
Beer starts at Rs 170 (Kingfisher draught).

SamBar Pub & Kitchen

The newest entrant on Khar’s party scene, SamBar is located a few lanes away from Khar Social and Raasta. It serves reasonably priced drinks and South Indian nibbles (with a twist). Even the waiters and members of the staff are dressed in the traditional lungi. With minimal décor and an innovative menu, SamBar is a respite from its noisier neighbours.
Beer starts at Rs 170 (Fosters, Kingfisher).

99 Bar

For those who breathe Bollywood on all days of the week, this is the place to be. The DJ only spins Bollywood numbers. In keeping with the name, the bar menu offers a selected list of alcohol for Rs 99 only – Smirnoff, Old Monk, Blender’s Pride, Captain Morgan and Bacardi Rum (30ml each).
Beer starts at Rs 199 (Budweiser, Tuborg, Fosters, Kingfisher).
