5. Tanhaiyan

While we binge on the English shows, let us also applaud a Hindi original on Hotstar with TV stars Barun Sobti and Surbhi Jyoti. It is set in the backdrop of a marriage, where we meet our outspoken and carefree protagonists – the bride’s best friend and the groom’s best friend. Over a series of 10 episodes, we unearth their hidden insecurities and follow their love story. It’s a rather realistic take on what could have easily become a sappy soap.

6. Mr Robot

No, the show didn’t simply win the Golden Globe for the Best Drama series. The thriller follows the double life of Elliot – who is a cyber-security programmer by day and a cyber-hacker by night. Rami Malek as Elliot delivers a superlative performance and the writing is backed by brilliant couplets and poetry that give us an insight into Elliot’s dark mind.

7. The Mick

It’s difficult to come across sitcoms devoid of sexual humour. The Mick manages to do the same beautifully. The Hotstar show follows an otherwise unsuccessful, clueless and ruthless lady, Mick, take over baby-sitting duties of her opulent sister’s three spoilt brats, after her sister and her husband are arrested over financial scams. The story is simple and the misadventures are hilarious. This is a must-watch to beat your daily woes.
