5 TV Ads That Will Tug At Your Heartstrings

These Indian TV commercials will move and inspire you

You’re watching a gripping episode of Pretty Little Liars—anxiously waiting for A’s next move—only to be interrupted by the new ‘fastest ever’ mobile Internet plan. Television commercials can be so annoying! Nobody likes a slew of promotions in the middle of their favourite programming. That being said, there are some ads out there that simply make you get up and take notice.

Over the years, there’s been a huge change in the way TV ads are made in India. Ad film makers have understood that it’s not just the loud, maddening jingles that catch a viewer’s attention. TVCs that carry a funny or heartfelt message, or strike a chord with the viewer, are those that tend to really work. Sometimes we go on YouTube to watch these particular ads again!

Though there are many recent ads worth every second of their run time, here’s a list of our favourite must-watch ones.

1. Mirinda, #ReleaseThePressure

Agency: BBDO
Every year, there are incidences of suicide by students during exam time. What’s more disturbing is the fact that even meritorious students—in the race to get first position—lose their minds and fall prey to depression. This ad tries to send a message across to the parents, who are the biggest support any student can have. They are their true guardians. But many a times, parents fail to understand that not every child is same; not every child must excel at the same thing. This advertisement is a heartfelt message to all those parents for their children to understand and support them, and not get into the comparison game. The film shows students writing letters to their parents and simultaneously, parents are shown reading them with tears in their eyes. The brand’s message is ‘no more pressurepanti, only pagalpanti’.

2. Tata Tea, Alarm Ad

Agency: Mullen Lintas
Reviving the ‘Jaago Re’ concept launched by Tata Tea way back in 2008, they have recently launched this new advertisement which urges us to be proactive with the message, ‘alarm bajne se pehle jaago Re’. Don’t wait for the alarm to hit; don’t wait for a social tragedy to occur. Do what is required well ahead of time, is the message they want to send out.

3. Doublemint India, Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se

Agency: BBDO
This one will surely make you go aww! The rendition of true love, the charm of long distance relationships and the beauty of first love—all this makes for the perfect recipe for a perfect love story as depicted in this ad.

In the lead are Naira and Adi, the Indian versions of Sara and Juan of the Wrigley’s ad in USA by BBDO. The romantic ballad ‘Ek ajnabi haseena se’ plays in the background as the film portrays the love story of a girl and a boy next door. How Doublemint as a brand is involved in the story is both, witty and touching.

4. Samsung India, #SamsungService

Agency: Cheil India
This ad became one of the most popular and garnered more than 35 million views in less than two weeks. It highlights the customer service provided by Samsung to even the most remote areas. So you thinking, what’s so special about a customer service ad which will have a representative from the company going to a remote area, right? There’s more. This 4-minute ad will give you goosebumps; watch it for yourself.

5. Titan Raga, #MomByChoice

Agency: Ogilvy & Mather India
When you enter motherhood, you generally stop considering your existence and all that matters are your kids. Their likes, dislikes, preferences, comforts etc. take over your choices. The new Titan Raga TVC intends to break this stereotype with its theme, ‘khud se naya rishta’ and shares a new perspective on motherhood.

We are on an emotional trip after watching all these amazing ads. Tell us which ones touched your heart, in the comments section below.
