What’s life without some outdoor magic? Especially in Mumbai, the summer months are scorching, keeping everyone in the confines of an air-conditioned room. Come July, August, and September, the monsoons bring in so much happiness because we can finally step out.

Most people use the weekends for short getaways and outdoor adventures to the outskirts of the city. But not everyone is cut out for rappelling, kayaking, and trekking up slippery mountains and waterfalls. That doesn’t mean they should miss out on all the fun.

300 x 250

We’ve rounded up some safe monsoon adventures for the unadventurous, so that everyone can make the most of the rainy days.

1. An Easy-Breezy Trek

Trekking up a hill while the rain is pouring down may not be the best idea for a rookie. However, there are some easy treks that have a set path that’s safe and doable. Get in touch with trek organisers to join such a trek where you’ll be accompanied by experts.

Opt for a short trek up a fort, because those usually have steps to climb, and you won’t have to worry about loose rocks. Korigad Fort, Lohagad Fort and Tikona Fort are great options (you can expect a beautiful view and warm bhajiyas as a reward for climbing).

2. Camping By The Lake

Who doesn’t enjoy camping by a lakeside with a bonfire and barbecue? This one’s for those who want to enjoy the rains without the effort of trekking to the top of a hill.

You can simplify it even further by contacting camp organisers such as Big Red Tent. Their volunteers will get all the work done, including your tent, your barbecue, transport, and sleeping bags, all for a small fee.

3. Monsoon Cycling

Unable to get out of the city? There are several organised events within the city itself, one of the most intriguing being monsoon cycling (check out Mumbai Riders).

What makes it even better is cycling at night. Monsoon moonlight cycling is becoming ever so popular. Look out for ones nearby, to enjoy the rains close to home. Squeeze an exciting workout out of it, like spinning under the stars!

4. A Rainy Road Trip

Road trips have a great vibe — driving by scenic views, loud music, lots of snacks and pit stops, and of course, innumerable photographs.

Just on the outskirts of Mumbai, there are several trips you can take, for a fun scenic and easy road trip. Kashid, Karnala, Malshej Ghat, and Lonavala, will all be worth your while, so get packing.

5. Visit A National Park

Nature and wildlife trails at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park would make for a great, yet light outdoor adventure. We can’t promise you’ll get to see a wild cat, but you’ll get to experience the flora and fauna blooming this season. Check Bombay Natural History Society’s website for upcoming nature trails.

Whatever you chose to do, be sure to get out of your home and soak in the beautiful weather.
