With the success of web-series in India, there’s now a whole new line of actors to talk about and obsess over. People like Sumeet Vyas, Mithila Palkar, and Naveen Kasturia, among others, are now household names, known for their diverse range and talent. However, many of these newly-minted ‘stars’ have been around for quite a while now, playing offbeat roles on the big screen and proving that they can excel in pretty much any medium.

Here’s a bunch of ways you can spot some of your favourite faces from the internet in other roles.

300 x 250

Sumeet Vyas

With the release of Permanent Roommates, Sumeet Vyas became a big internet sensation from nowhere. Agree? If you do, you couldn’t be more wrong. Now, try recalling Sridevi’s friends from English Vinglish: there was this guy named Salman Khan who kept hitting on the Chinese girl in English class. That was Sumeet Vyas. He has also acted in Aarakshan, and the more recent Parched, where you must have recognised him in the role of Kishan. He’s definitely been around, guys!

Anand Tiwari

This man has done everything. He is an actor primarily, but also a writer/director/producer/casting director/music composer. As an actor, he has been part of big films like Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, Fair Game, Udaan, Slumdog Millionaire, Go Goa Gone, Aisha, Finding Fanny, Kites, Mumbai Meri Jaan, and plenty others. Seems like a dynamite of talent, doesn’t he?

Aahana Kumra

Coming from a rock solid theatre background, Aahana did a few short films here and there. Her biggest break was Yudh, a mini TV series starring Amitabh Bachchan, directed by Anurag Kashyap. She has also done a lot of ad films. After playing the badass boss, Rati in Official Chukiyagiri, Aahana is enjoy the critical appreciation of her latest film Lipstick Under my Burkah which also stars actors like Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah and Sushant Singh to name a few. Way to go, girl!

Naveen Kasturia

Famously known as Naveen Bansal from TVF’s Pitchers, Naveen Kasturia wasn’t even an actor in the making. He completed his engineering from Delhi and worked as an analyst for two years before his love for cinema drew him to Bombay. He has assisted on many films and also started writing scripts. On one such occasion, he was offered the role of Dulal in Sulemani Keeda and there was no turning back from then on. You can also spot him in LoveShhuda and many short films and sketches by TVF even before the release of Pitchers. He has arrived and we know he is here to stay.

Rajat Barmecha

Did you also feel that the cute roommate from Girl in the City was very familiar? We did, and hence we ran background check on him. Guess what we found? Rajat is actually Rohan Singh, the lead from Udaan. Of course we took a while to recognise him because he was only 17 then, and look at him now! Hasn’t he grown to be super duper cute? You can also spot him doing a cameo in Shaitan.

Maanvi Gagroo

She has taught us how to be a supportive girlfriend in Pitchers and then how to stand for our siblings in Tripling. There is no doubt she makes every second on the screen look so effortless. You can also catch glimpses of her in PK and No One Killed Jessica. She has also done a lot of feature films like The Cheetah Girls and Aamras and a couple of short films as well!

Ali Fazal

Ali Fazal gained fame in the web world from a series called Bang Baaja Baarat where he played the lead protagonist, Pawan. Ali has also contributed a lot in Bollywood films. Do you remember the guy from 3 Idiots who makes that drone and later commits suicide, or the guy who is hopelessly in love with Happy from Happy Bhaag Jayegi, or Zafar in Fukrey? Ali has nailed each and every one of these roles. Interestingly, he even has a cameo in Fast and Furious 7. Not just a Bollywood guy anymore!

Gaurav Pandey

For all those who have seen YRF’s Man’s World have at some point or the other related to Kiran. Gaurav has a face of a regular Indian guy and when you club that with subtle acting, you create a character-actor that can easily convince you. We have seen Gaurav in many TV commercials and Bollywood films. He plays the role of Varun Dhawan’s friend, Sonty, in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. You can also see him in the character of Rohit in A Flying Jatt.

More power to you guys! We’re expecting so much more in the future.
