Amitabh Bachchan is quite rightly known as ‘the star of the millennium’. He draws as much fanfare from us millennials as he did from our parents as well as our parents’ parents!

While most other actors are obsessed with defying age, Big B chooses to embrace each passing year of his life with grace and dignity. On the occasion of his birthday, we take a look at what makes his charm and aura oh so timeless!

He is an unrepeatable phenomenon

The brilliance of Big B’s screen presence has been a constant. While we never tire of watching his legendary performances from iconic films like Sholay, Zanjeer and Namak Halaal, he continues to surprise us even now with outstanding performances in films like Paa, Paheli, Sarkar, Cheeni Kum, Bunty aur Babli, Bhootnath and many others.

300 x 250

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that this is perhaps the best phase of Big B’s career. He has changed the perception about senior actors by picking his roles wisely and effortlessly pulling off challenging films like Wazir, Piku and Pink.

Versatility is his middle name

Yup. He indeed is Amitabh ‘Versatile’ Bachchan! He has created an unparalleled niche for himself by delivering awe-inspiring performances every time he appears on screen. Every hat he wears, be it that of an actor’s, a TV show host’s or a singer’s, he dons it with elan. The latest Tata Sky ad where he raps Yo Se, Yo Se is a classic example.

“Idleness invites complacency … begs it to be of immense disinterest and lethargic in nature … binds you in an embrace that you find difficult to get out of … it is the fortune of goodness that I begin work in earnest again by tomorrow …”, wrote Mr Bachchan in a blog while revealing his work schedule till the year 2019!

In the face of today’s Ranbirs and Ranvirs or even the ruling Khans of the industry, the 75-year-old is still one of the busiest actors around. If that’s not telling enough of his talent and versatility, then what is!

He’s a social media enthusiast

One of the major reasons Big B’s stardom hasn’t faded in the slightest is his powerful presence on social media. An avid blogger, he’s also popular (read 30 million followers!) for his witty tweets.

Whether it’s playfully chiding Sonam Kapoor on Twitter for ignoring him, trying to find humour in the recent Mumbai deluge (though he was massively trolled for it) or just being plain cryptic, one can always expect to be entertained by Sr. Bachchan, no matter what the medium.

He is the indispensable KBC host

It is not possible to talk about Amitabh Bachchan and not mention Kaun Banega Crorepati. He will be hosting the show for 17 years and 8 seasons now and he still manages to mesmerise us. His role as the humble host who talks in beautiful Hindi and makes star-struck contestants feel right at home is the stuff TV history is made of. So much so that even Shah Rukh Khan couldn’t manage to recreate, let alone replace, Big B’s charm.

He’s always a man on a mission

Despite being two generations ahead of us, Amitabh Bachchan makes efforts to learn about things that concern the youth in order to connect with us. He keeps a tab on all sports matches and cheers enthusiastically for India, experiments with androgynous fashion by wearing heels, writes open letters on gender equality and is also linked with various government and social welfare initiatives. For instance, check out this fabulous PSA, Asli mard kaun hota hai, that he did for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

We can’t really complain about missing out on the Angry Young Man craze of the ’80s because Big B has given us a lot more to be entertained and inspired by. In the hope of many more years of basking in the magic of his aura, we wish Amitabh Bachchan a very Happy Birthday!
